As part of the recent trail improvements on the iconic Light to Light walk, two new hike in campsites have been created along the route. The pick of these two brand new campsites is Mowarry Campground, located about 8km from the trailhead at Boyd Tower.

Hike in Camping at Mowarry Campground
One of the main features that makes Mowarry Campground special, especially compared to the existing campgrounds on the Light to Light walk, is that it is only accessible by foot. This means that you will not arrive to camp and find a bunch of 4WDs and caravans parked up and dominating the scene. Being hike in only also adds a wilder element to the experience, making the route feel more adventurous, remote and exciting.

Facilities at Mowarry Campground
I was surprised by how good the facilities are at Mowarry Campground. There is a brand new toilet block, with two stalls, and new water tank besides. While you will definitely want to treat the water before drinking, its presence is a very welcome addition. For camping, there are ten camping platforms, plenty big enough for two tents each, and these are scattered around the site. Some platforms feature ocean views through the trees, while others are more tucked away in the bush and would be great on windy nights.
There are multiple d-rings attached to the platforms for securing your tent and you might want to consider bringing extra cordage to help setup your tent, especially if it is not freestanding. The platforms also feature a small metal plate secured to the corners and I assume that this is a recommended spot for cooking up dinner on a gas stove. It’s worth noting that you are not allowed fires at Mowarry Campground.

Location, Location, Location
Mowarry Campground has possibly the best location on the Light to Light walk as it sits on the cliff top and offers beautiful views over the ocean. The site is a combination of scrub and grass, and the platform sites have been thoughtfully considered to offer a touch of privacy.
It is a very short walk from camp to a beautiful vantage point above Mowarry Beach, a stunning sandy beach in a quiet bay that is screaming out for a quick swim. Mowarry Point also makes a nice sunrise spot.
Bookings for Mowarry Campground can be secured on the NSW Parks website.
